INGLEWOOD, Calif., Nov. 26 (UPI) -- Police in Los Angeles said they arrested a man, who was to testify in a case involving a sex tape of actor Charlie Sheen, for allegedly stealing the tape.

Darwin Vela, 22, and his girlfriend, Kelly McLaren, 24, were arrested Monday on suspicion of burglarizing the home of Nicolas Cage's former girlfriend, Christina Fulton, in August, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Vela and McLaren allegedly assisted another man, Ricardo Orozco, in stealing the tape featuring Sheen, then taking it to the actor's representatives and asking how much it was worth.

Vela was scheduled to testify Thursday against Orozco, who is accused of trying to extort Sheen over the sex tape, but Vela went missing Nov. 19. Vela was discovered Friday in South Los Angeles after he flagged down a passerby and had them call 911. The injured Vela told police he had been kidnapped.

McLaren showed up to testify Thursday against Orozco, but invoked her fifth amendment right not to testify, the Times said.

Vela and McLaren were jailed on $50,000 bail each, said Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. Cleon Joseph.
