EAST GRINSTEAD, England, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- Actor John Travolta was turned away from a KFC in south east Britain after trying to reserve a table at the fried chicken restaurant.

Staff at the East Grinstead branch of the fast food chain said they thought a prankster was calling to reserve a table for the actor, although it was later discovered the Hollywood actor was actually in town for a Church of Scientology event.

The caller was told the restaurant did not take reservations and that Travolta would have to join the back of the queue like everyone else, the Grinstead Courier & Observer reported.

"In hindsight, of course, we would have reserved a table for him," a KFC spokesman said.

The KFC employee who took the call said the caller was a woman who did not give her name.

"She just said it will be for a Mr. Travolta," the employee told the newspaper. "That threw me a little bit. I thought it might be a load of nonsense, but she seemed pretty serious."
