KING OF BHUTAN: King Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuck of Bhutan married the commoner daughter of an airline pilot Thursday in Punakha.

The traditional Buddhist wedding began at 8:20 a.m. in one of the oldest fortress-monasteries in the country, AsiaNews.it reported.

The monarch wore a yellow band and a Raven Crown, symbols of the monarchy. His bride, Jetsun Pema, wore gold and was accompanied by monks and flag-wavers.

No outside royals or celebrities attended the wedding, which was broadcast live on television.

The eldest monk at the monastery led the ceremony, which included the purification of the couple in front of 17th century tapestries depicting the king and warrior-monk Zhabdrung, founder of Bhutan.

Celebrations of the union will continue in the country for three days, giving all subjects of the kingdom a chance to participate, the report said.

King Jigme, an Oxford University graduate, ascended to the throne in 2008 after his father's abdication. He has since abolished the absolute monarchy and introduced democratic elections in the Buddhist country of 600,000 inhabitants.

The couple plans to honeymoon in Rajasthan, India.

JOEL DIGREGORIO: Joel "Taz" DiGregorio, a founding member of The Charlie Daniels Band, was killed in a Nashville car crash, officials said Thursday. He was 67.

The singer, songwriter and keyboardist co-wrote the band's classic song "The Devil Went Down to Georgia."

TMZ said DiGregorio's sport utility vehicle veered off the road and slammed into a tree as he was on his way to meet the group's tour bus Wednesday.

"I am in shock now. Taz was one of my best friends. We're going to miss you, buddy. You were one of a kind and will never be forgotten," Daniels said in a statement, adding the band has canceled its concerts for Thursday and Saturday.

JOHNNY DEPP: Disney says it plans to release its American western film "The Lone Ranger" in 2013, after apparently solving budget problems that had shut the production down.

"Johnny Depp, Jerry Bruckheimer and Gore Verbinski are such a talented combination and we're thrilled to get back to work with them on 'The Lone Ranger,'" a studio representative told EW.com.

The actor, producer and director previously collaborated on Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean" blockbusters.

"The Lone Ranger" project was temporarily put on hold while the filmmakers cut the movie's budget from $250 million to $215 million. The confirmed this week work has resumed on the film and a release date of May 31, 2013, has been set EW.com said.

Armie Hammer ("Gossip Girl," "The Social Network") is to play the title role, while Depp portrays his sidekick Tonto.

PEE-WEE HERMAN: Spike TV says it will honor Paul Reubens with its Visionary Award at this weekend's SCREAM Awards 2011 at California's Universal Studios.

Reubens is being recognized for creating the iconic film, TV and stage character Pee-wee Herman.

Quentin Tarantino, Mark Wahlberg, Bradley Cooper, Kate Beckinsale, Zoe Saldana and Lena Headey are confirmed to attend Saturday night's event, the cable network said.

The program is to air Tuesday on Spike TV, with a simulcast on VH1 and VH1 Classic.

"If Pee-wee were giving this quote, I think he'd scream out: 'I'm a visionary! I'm a visionary!' and then run to the dictionary to look up what 'visionary' means. But I know what it means, and I am profoundly grateful and honored to Spike TV for this recognition. I share this with all the amazing collaborators I've had over the years and my fans, without whom none of this would be possible or worth it," Reubens said in a statement Thursday.

"Paul Reubens had a big vision and in bringing Pee-wee Herman and his amazing Playhouse to life, he brilliantly brought us all along on a very big adventure," said Michael Levitt, executive producer of Spike TV's SCREAM Awards 2011. "Pee-wee speaks to the inner child in all of us, with a grown-up wit and a timeless irreverence. At the Scream Awards, we honor a wide range of visionary geniuses and it has been a longstanding dream to have this chance to honor Paul -- and Pee-wee -- with the Scream Visionary Award."
