NEW YORK, Oct. 2 (UPI) -- Actress Catherine Zeta Jones rushed home from London to New York this week to be with her cancer-stricken husband, actor Michael Douglas.

Zeta Jones, 41, was on holiday to watch the Ryder Cup in Wales when she received a call from one of Douglas's doctors Thursday, The Sun newspaper reported Saturday.

"The doctor spoke to her about Michael's condition. Michael is always desperate to see her, but typically of Michael, he didn't want to make a fuss," a family friend told the newspaper Friday.

Zeta Jones also made arrangements for her parents to meet her in New York within the coming days.

"She was emotional. She cried but was very brave," a source at London's Heathrow airport told The Sun.

Douglas, 66, who has been undergoing chemotherapy, looked "gaunt" Friday upon welcoming Zeta Jones back home, the newspaper said.
