Obama ladies attend 'Poppins' performance

WASHINGTON, July 1 (UPI) -- U.S. first lady Michelle Obama and daughters Sasha and Malia attended the first Washington performance of "Mary Poppins" Thursday night.

The North American tour of the show is playing the Kennedy Center through Aug. 22.

The musical's producers said Obama decided to see the show after watching a number from "Mary Poppins" performed at last month's taping of "America Celebrates July 4th at Ford's Theatre," which is to air on ABC Friday night.
