LONDON, Feb. 17 (UPI) -- A post-mortem examination conducted on Alexander McQueen's body indicated the British fashion designer died of asphyxiation and hanging, officials said.

McQueen, 40, was discovered dead in a closet in his London flat last Thursday as final preparations were being made for his spring collection to debut in Paris. He reportedly also died the day before his late mother was to be buried.

Investigators told Westminster Coroner's Court a suicide note was found near McQueen's body and there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death, the BBC reported.

It was also revealed during the hearing that McQueen's sister, Janet, identified his body the day he died, the British broadcaster said.

The inquest has been adjourned until April 28.
