NEWPORT, R.I., Aug. 2 (UPI) -- The 2009 Newport Folk Festival in Newport, R.I., reportedly enjoyed its highest attendance in years with 9,200 visitors.

The Providence (R.I.) Journal reported Sunday the attendance total for the 50th rendition of the Newport festival was the highest since 2002, the year Bob Dylan rejoined the festival's music lineup.

Among the performers this year were singers Ramblin' Jack Elliott and Ben Kweller, folk-blues guitarist Langhorne Slim and the rock band Fleet Foxes.

The Fort Adams Park festival, which took place Saturday and Sunday, concluded with a sing-along involving some of the festival's younger performers and several of its older veterans.

The Providence Journal said folk singers Pete Seeger, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings sang hits such as "This Land Is Your Land" with younger members of Fleet Foxes, Low Anthem and the Decemberists.
