British newspapers correct Mills stories

LONDON, Jan. 30 (UPI) -- Four British newspapers published corrections for erroneous reports they ran about Heather Mills after her lawyer contacted the Press Complaints Commission.

The corrections came months after the activist and former model -- who is known for her acrimonious divorce from rock 'n' roll icon Paul McCartney, as well as for her stint on "Dancing with the Stars" -- said during a live appearance on British TV's "GMTV" program that she has been victimized by the press and encouraged people to boycott the tabloids.

Most of the articles made allegations regarding Mills's appearance, mental state and spending habits, although some stories concerned her young daughter, Beatrice.

The Guardian said The Daily Express, The Daily Mirror, The Daily Mirror's Sunday edition and London Lite have all printed clarifications regarding stories Mills and her lawyer said were inaccurate.

Sources close to the PCC told the Guardian The Daily Mail had written to Mills to apologize for another article, while The Sun and The News of the World are said to be in talks with the commission regarding stories they published.

"I'm happy to open a dialogue with the papers. I'm also happy the drubbing has diminished and so is Heather. No one deserves that kind of vilification in the media," Mills's U.S. publicist, Joe Dolce, told The Guardian.
