Leona Lewis writing autobiography

LONDON, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- British pop star Leona Lewis is writing her autobiography, which is scheduled for release in October, shortly before her second album debuts, the BBC said.

The book will chronicle the former waitress' rise to musical fame.

The 23-year-old singer told the BBC the two years that have passed since she won the U.K. singing competition series "The X Factor" have been "an unbelievable experience."

"To have it documented in pictures and to be able to tell people in my own words how it feels means a lot to me," she said. "I know the book will be full of special moments and I'm already having a brilliant time putting it together."

Lewis' debut effort "Spirit" marked the first time a CD by a British woman had topped the U.S. album chart. "Spirit" also topped numerous other charts around the world.

The singer was chosen to represent Great Britain by performing at the closing ceremony of the Olympics in Beijing and her song "Bleeding Love" was iTunes' biggest seller of 2008.
