Judge: Brinkley divorce a public affair

NEW YORK, June 21 (UPI) -- Christie Brinkley's divorce trial will remain open to the public despite a motion to protect the supermodel's children, a New York judge has ruled.

Long Island Judge Mark D. Cohen ruled Friday that the legal battle between Brinkley and her husband Peter Cook will not be held in closed sessions since not enough evidence was given for such proceedings, People magazine reported.

Law guardian Theresa Mari, who represents the couple's two young sons, had argued that a portion of the evidence likely to be involved in the divorce proceedings could be damaging to the boys, ages 9 and 12.

Cook also supported the motion, but New York divorce trials are always open unless the presiding judge rules to have them closed to the public.

Cook's attorney, Norman Sheresky, told People her client was "disappointed" the former Cover Girl model supported keeping the trial open.

"Obviously, like any father, Peter is disappointed Christie Brinkley has invited their children to attend the divorce trial," Sheresky said. "Why would anyone be happy about that? It's putting herself in front of her children."
