Eddy Grant to release 'very best-of' CD

LOS ANGELES, June 17 (UPI) -- Caribbean music icon Eddy Grant, who owns all his own recordings, has made a pact with Universal Music Enterprises to distribute his song catalog.

The music company said it has entered into an exclusive licensing arrangement with Grant, who was born in Guyana, raised in North London and has lived in Barbados for many years. He is best known for his 1980s songs "Electric Avenue" and "Romancing the Stone."

The first album to be issued under the deal is to be "The Very Best of Eddy Grant -- The Road to Reparation," set for release July 8.

The CD will span his solo career from 1979 to 2005 -- from his second album, "Walking on Sunshine," to his latest, "Reparation."

The label said the new collection includes 11 classic tracks selected by Grant himself.
