LIVERPOOL, England, June 2 (UPI) -- Rock 'n' roll icon Paul McCartney returned to his hometown of Liverpool, England, to perform as part of the city's European Capital of Culture celebrations.

The Times of London said that before he started his show at Anfield Stadium, the former Beatle told the crowd of about 36,000: "We're going to have a good night out. That's all I ever aim to do."
