Coachella festival closed out by Prince

PALM DESERT, Calif., April 27 (UPI) -- Pop singer Prince helped close out the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in Indio, Calif., this weekend with a series of cover songs, Billboard reports.

The music publication said Sunday the "Purple Rain" star's performance included covers of the Beatles' "Come Together" and Radiohead's "Creep," along with a number of his own classic songs.

Prince was a late addition to the Coachella lineup, but scores of loyal fans were on hand Saturday to watch the "Little Red Corvette" singer perform.

Death Cab for Cutie lead singer Ben Gibbard even gave Prince an early introduction during his band's set on the main festival stage.

"Are you guys excited for Prince?" Gibbard asked those in attendance. "He'll be arriving soon in his purple helicopter."

Other notable performers included the British trip-hop band Portishead, rockers System of a Down and the German electronic group Kraftwerk.
