Humanitarianism focus of film in China

BEIJING, April 12 (UPI) -- Director Roger Spottiswoode says his movie "The Children of Huang Shi," just released in China, is meant to promote humanitarianism by exploring compassion.

The "Tomorrow Never Dies" director said by showing a British journalist saving orphaned Chinese children during wartime "Huang Shi" was intended to encourage others to embrace humanitarianism, the China Daily reported Saturday.

The drama, which stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Chow Yun-Fat, has had some tough competition in theaters since being released in China April 3.

Also released that day was the film "Three Kingdoms: Resurrection of the Dragon," which is based on a classic Chinese literary tale. The film follows a warrior named Zhao Yun, who lived in 220-265 AD, the China Daily said.

The movie stars Andy Lau and Maggie Q, who starred in "Mission Impossible III" opposite Hollywood star Tom Cruise.
