NEW YORK, March 16 (UPI) -- Comedian Adam Carolla says he chose to perform on "Dancing with the Stars" because he saw the U.S. TV series as a "challenge."
The actor said by taking part in the dancing competition he was doing something new and the TV series gave him a chance to push himself, the New York Post said Sunday.
"I thought it'd be a challenge," Carolla said. "I've been walking around carrying an extra 10 pounds for the last 10 years, and I thought this would be a nice excuse to drop a few, straighten up my posture and just do something I'd never done before."
The former "Loveline" host also has a new movie out in theaters called "The Hammer," which allowed Carolla a chance to revisit his former days as an amateur boxer.
The 40-year-old comedian, who both starred in and produced "Hammer," told the Post the decision to forgo boxing was an easy choice.
"I honestly evaluated myself at a certain point and realized this would not be a good way to make money," he said. "I didn't enjoy beating people up, and I really didn't enjoy getting beaten up."
