Strike delays more Hollywood films

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 20 (UPI) -- Production on the U.S. film versions of "Shantaram" and "Nine" has been delayed because of the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike, Variety.com said.

The scripts for the movies were reportedly not ready to be shot and could not be finished because of the writers' work stoppage.

"Shantaram," the screen adaptation of Gregory David Roberts' novel, was set to begin shooting in February with Johnny Depp producing and starring and Mira Nair at the helm.

Rob Marshall's star-studded movie musical "Nine" was slated to start production in March, but now won't begin shooting until the second half of the year.

Co-starring Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz, Sophia Loren and Marion Cotillard, the musical was inspired by the Fellini film "8 1/2."

Other casualties of the strike have been Ron Howard's "Angels & Demons" and Oliver Stone's "Pinkville," both of which have also been postponed.
