WGA East pickets on N.Y.'s Fifth Avenue

NEW YORK, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- About 400 Writers Guild of America East members and supporters protested on Manhattan's Fifth Avenue for four hours Wednesday.

"I've had a lot of pedestrians telling me, 'Hey, good luck with this,'" "Late Show with David Letterman" writer Steve Young told Variety. "I don't know if the approval of tourists is going to bring (CBS studio boss) Les Moonves to his knees, but it makes us feel good."

A giant, inflatable pig stood at the corner of Fifth and 55th Street outside the World of Disney store, while picketers chanted, "Hi-ho! Hi-ho! No work 'til we get dough," the trade newspaper reported.

Taxi and drivers honked their horns in support.
