Movie flying roadster sold at auction

AUBURN, Ind., June 4 (UPI) -- The cheery wood-and-steel flying vehicle in the movie "Chitty Chitty Bang Bank" sold at auction to a Florida collector for just less than $498,000.

The winged roadster operated by actor Dick Van Dyke in the 1968 film was bought by Ralph Spencer of Jacksonville, Fla., during the 16th annual Auburn Spring Motorfair at Kruse Auction Park in Indiana, the Daily Mail reported Monday. The car collector already owns a 1966 Batmobile and said he had his eyes on the winged car for the past few years.
