Actor Ryan O'Neal off the hook

LOS ANGELES, May 26 (UPI) -- Actor Ryan O'Neal will not be charged with assault or gun charges related to his arrest for an alleged fight with his son in Malibu, Calif.

The Los Angeles County district attorney's office announced Friday that it did not have enough evidence to charge O'Neal in the alleged dispute with his son, Griffin, at his home on Feb. 3, the Los Angeles Times reported Saturday.

O'Neal, 66, was originally arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and negligent discharge of a firearm after reportedly firing a warning gunshot during an argument with his adult son.

The actor said his son was swinging a fireplace poker, which grazed him four or five times. Then, he "aimed at my head, I ducked, he hit his own girlfriend in the head," the elder O'Neal said.

The actor said he fired the warning shot to scare his 42-year-old son.
