'Sunshine,' 'Betty' win GLAAD awards

LOS ANGELES, April 15 (UPI) -- "Little Miss Sunshine" and "Ugly Betty" were among the winners as the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation presented its annual awards in Los Angeles.

GLAAD handed out five of its 42 annual awards Saturday night -- the rest will be presented April 28 in San Francisco and May 10 in Florida.

"Little Miss Sunshine" -- which was nominated for a best picture Oscar -- was honored by GLAAD as best wide-release film. "Ugly Betty" won for outstanding TV comedy series, and "Brothers & Sisters" was named outstanding TV drama series.

The organization presented its Vanguard Award to actress Jennifer Aniston, and the Stephen K. Kolzak Award went to tennis great Martina Navratilova.

The GLAAD Media Awards will be televised April 21 on Logo -- MTV Networks' cable channel geared to programming for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender viewers.
