Actor Tige Andrews dead at 86

ENCINO, Calif., Feb. 3 (UPI) -- Stage, screen and TV veteran Tige Andrews -- known to many as Capt. Greer on TV's "The Mod Squad" -- has died in Encino, Calif., at age 86.

Andrews was known to viewers of "The Phil Silvers Show," "Gunsmoke," "Marcus Welby, M.D.," "Kojak" and "Murder, She Wrote." When he played Kras on "Star Trek" it was the second-ever appearance of a Klingon, Variety said.

He received Emmy nominations for his role as Bodos in "The Big Valley" and for "The Mod Squad."

Andrews acted in Broadway and off-Broadway productions such as "Mr. Roberts" and "From Here to Eternity." He's credited for introducing the song, "Mack the Knife" in the original production of "The Threepenny Opera."

Andrews' film credits include "Imitation General," "Onionhead" and "China Doll."

Andrews, who died Jan. 27, was preceded in death by his wife, Norma, who died in 1996. He is survived by six children and 11 grandchildren.
