'Judge Judy's' son seeking DA post

CARMEL, N.Y., Jan. 23 (UPI) -- Adam Levy, son of television's Judith "Judge Judy" Sheindlin, is among the candidates seeking the Putnam County, N.Y., district attorney seat.

Levy was scheduled to announce his candidacy with his famous mom and stepfather, former New York State Supreme Court Justice Gerald Sheindlin at his side, the New York Daily News said.

"You know how your heart swells with pride anytime your child does anything?" Judith Sheindlin said. "Well, my heart is practically shooting out of my chest."

Levy said he couldn't have sought the office without his parents as examples.

"Being raised in that house, I saw his passion for what he did and I saw her passion for what she did," he said. "I wanted to pick a profession that I had that same love for, and I've found it."

Levy, a former assistant district attorney in Suffolk County, N.Y., is a partner in a Putnam County firm. Running as a Republican, he is one of several candidates trying to take over the $131,400-a-year job from Kevin Wright, who did not seek re-election after 20 years in the office.
