Knightley sues paper for remarks on eating

LONDON, Jan. 22 (UPI) -- British actress Keira Knightley has sued the Daily Mail, charging the paper hinted she tried to mislead the public about whether she has an eating disorder.

The 21-year-old star's lawyers said the action involved comments on Knightley's thin appearance, and information about the death of a teenage girl's suffering from anorexia, including comments from the girl's mother, Sky News said.

"We wish to make clear that Ms. Knightley has the deepest sympathy for the girl's family," said her attorney, Simon Smith. "However, Ms. Knightley has publicly denied suggestions that she might be anorexic or have a similar eating disorder."

Smith said his client would argue that the Daily Mail article suggested that she "dishonestly sought to mislead the public about whether she has anorexia or similar eating disorder," and will prove that she doesn't.

He said Knightley also would challenge the implication that she was responsible for the death of the teen "by setting a bad example."
