Mongol Genghis Khan show comes to Hungary

BUDAPEST, Hungary, Jan. 3 (UPI) -- An exhibit of Mongolia's 12th-century artifacts and the life and legacy of Genghis Khan will be displayed in Budapest, Hungary.

Tibor Kovacs, director of the Hungarian National Gallery, said the road show exhibiting more than 500 art objects from 20 European and Mongolian collections, will arrive in Budapest from Istanbul, Turkey, in May, the Hungarian news agency MTI reported Wednesday.

The artifacts, including gold treasure, paintings, writings and Buddhist statues, cover the 12th-century period of the Turkish Ottoman Empire, nomadic life and connections between Buddhism and Mongols.

Genghis Khan invaded what now are territories of Poland and Hungary in 1241.
