In the best film category, "Cars" will meet with stiff competition from "Monster House," "Flushed Away" and the highly successful penguin film "Happy Feet."

Meanwhile, DreamWorks reaped most of its nominations on the strength of its top films, "Flushed Away" and "Over the Hedge."

All the directors related to both DreamWorks films received best director nominations, while actors Ian McKellan and Wanda Sykes received nods for their vocal work in the films.

The Web site said that the Annie Awards ceremony is recognized for its ability to predict the Academy Award winner for an animated film.
