'ER' wheelchair finds deserving owner

CALABASAS, Calif., Oct. 9 (UPI) -- A wheelchair used by actor James Woods in an episode of NBC's "ER" has been purchased by a Nebraska woman suffering from Lou Gehrig's disease.

The state-of-the-art wheelchair, used in last season's "Body and Soul" episode that guest starred Woods, was purchased by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis sufferer Mary Finke of Lincoln, Neb., at a recent ALS Association's online auction, said a news release from the foundation.

In the episode, Woods played a man suffering from ALS whose only movement was due to the C500 Corpus model wheelchair he used.

"How appropriate it is that Mrs. Finke purchased the chair for her own personal use," said Permobil exec Barry Steelman, whose company manufactured and donated the wheelchair. "This chair was designed to provide comfort and reliability and to bring back a quality of life once enjoyed to the wheelchair user."

All proceeds made from the sale have been donated to the non-profit foundation to help battle ALS, the release said.
