Jennings, Beale to make 'Alchemist' debut

LONDON, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Stage actors Alex Jennings and Simon Russell Beale are set to make their first appearance together this week with a London production of "The Alchemist."

The two award-winning actors will share the stage for the first time Thursday at the Royal National Theatre to perform legendary playwright Ben Jonson's comedy of three charlatans cheating people with the lure of alchemy and gold, said Playbill.

With actress Lesley Manville rounding out the mischievous trio with Beale and Jennings, the production began previews last Friday and also marks Beale's busy season with the popular theater house.

Along with role in "The Alchemist," Beale has been taking on the title role in "The Life of Galileo" from Howard Davies and is set to take over the King Arthur role in "Spamalot" beginning next year.

Playbill said that Jennings has also had an illustrious history with the Royal National Theatre, starring in productions such as "My Fair Lady," which won him an Olivier Award, and in David Hare's "Stuff Happens."
