Folk Icon Bob Dylan has No. 1 U.S. album

NEW YORK, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- Folk music icon Bob Dylan scored the No. 1 album in the United States for the first time in 30 years with "Modern Times."

Although "Modern Times" is Dylan's third consecutive studio album to make it into the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 albums chart, it is his first No. 1 since "Desire" hit the top spot 1976, Billboard.com reported Wednesday.

Last week's No. 1 album, the self titled debut from Danity Kane, fell to No. 2 followed by Young Dro's major label debut, "Best Thang Smokin'," at No. 3.

Christina Aguilera's "Back to Basics" fell a slot to No. 4 and Jessica Simpson's "A Public Affair" entered the Top 200 at No. 5. Disney's soundtrack to "The Cheetah Girls 2" was No. 6 and Outkast's "Idlewild" was No. 7.

Method Man clocked in his fifth consecutive Top 10 debut with "4:21 ... The Day After" at No. 8, the Roots' "Game Theory" was No. 9 and Nickelback's "All the Right Reasons" was No. 10 in its 48th week on the chart.

U.S. CD sales were down 1.5 percent from last week with 9.39 albums sold, a 10 percent drop from the same week last year and 6 percent behind sales for 2005 thus far.
