Genealogy leads Sarandon to Wales pub

CARDIFF, Wales, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Oscar-winning actress Susan Sarandon made an impromptu visit to a Wales pub recently to explore her family's roots in the area and have a quick drink.

The South Wales Echo said that the 59-year-old actress, who was born Susan Abigail Tomalin, originally stopped into the Llynfi Arms in the small Wales village of Tondu to chat about her relatives living in the area but stayed to have a beer with locals.

"When they arrived, the BBC people told Susan to stay in the car and they told us she didn't smoke or drink and wouldn't want photos taken," said Mandy Griffith, wife of the Llynfi Arms landlord.

"But the next thing we know, she's sat down with a (cigarette) and half a Guinness signing autographs and chatting to the regulars."

The paper said that Sarandon was in the area filming a TV special about celebrities' family histories entitled "Who Do You Think You Are?" which is set to air next month on BBC2.
