'Today' allegedly breaks Landis embargo

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- "Today" allegedly agreed to air a taped interview with cyclist Floyd Landis after "Good Morning America's" live Los Angeles interview, but "Today's" ran first.

Robin Roberts interviewed the cyclist live at 7:12 a.m., but "Today" violated its agreement and ran Matt Lauer's taped interview at 7:05 a.m., the New York Post reported.

"In covering a story about fair play and cheating, it's remarkable that 'Today' went along with breaking the rules and violated (the Landis) embargo," ABC spokeswoman Bridgette Maney said.

"'GMA' respects embargoes and it's unfortunate that the competition clearly does not," Maney added.

Landis won the Tour de France in July, but has failed two drug tests. It is possible the athlete could lose his title.

"Today" show management made no comment, the newspaper said.
