'Nights' sets product placement records

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 3 (UPI) -- The Hollywood film "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby" is set to offer three companies an apparent record-breaking amount of product placement.

The new NASCAR-themed comedy prominently features the logos of Wonder Bread, Old Spice and Perrier an unprecedented amount of times throughout the film and in all of its related products, the Hollywood Reporter said.

In the film Will Ferrell, Sacha Baron Cohen and John C. Reilly portray NASCAR racers whose uniforms are veritable walking billboards for the three companies and all advertising for the Sony Pictures movie have featured those outfits prominently.

To sweeten the deal, none of the three companies was required to pay any integration fees to Sony for products placement -- they only had to agree to help promote the film through their own advertisements.

The paper said such product placement has become very commonplace in Hollywood recently, but when "Talladega Nights" hits theaters this Friday the practice will reach all new heights.
