Dallas film failures don't faze

DALLAS, Aug. 2 (UPI) -- Though recent movies with Dallas connections have flopped, Texas film industry experts say that won't hurt the state's Hollywood prospects.

"My Super Ex-Girlfriend," starring Dallas native Luke Wilson, and "The Ant Bully," made by a Dallas animation company DNA, both performed poorly at the box office, the Dallas Morning News reported.

Some are saying Dallas may be jinxed, but Texas Film Commission Director Bob Hudgins said the films' shortcomings won't affect the Texas film industry.

"We're not talking about three bombs here," Hudgins said. "'You, Me and Dupree' has done almost $60 million so far, and that's a respectable sum.

"Also, it will do well on DVD."

Dallas Film Commission Director Janis Burklund said "The Ant Bully" will do well over time and in home entertainment.

Burklund recalled the successes of "Boys Don't Cry" and "Bonnie and Clyde," both filmed in Dallas. The movie version of the iconic television series named for the Texas metropolis will also be shot there.

John Travolta playing J.R. Ewing should cause some local excitement, the newspaper reported.
