Leno to sub on 'Ebert & Roeper'

CHICAGO, July 28 (UPI) -- "Tonight Show" host Jay Leno has been selected to be a guest critic on the nationally syndicated movie review show "Ebert & Roeper."

The NBC late-night star will substitute for the ailing Roger Ebert on Aug. 5, columnist Robert Feder reports in Friday's Chicago Sun-Times.

Leno's appearance will be taped Tuesday in Los Angeles right after the taping of the "Tonight Show."

Richard Roeper and two producers will travel to the West Coast to accommodate Leno's schedule, the Sun-Times said.

"Jay watches movies with a critic's eye, and has a lot of interesting insights about movies that he's shared with me over the years," Roeper said. "Now he'll get a chance to share new insights about some big summer movies in the balcony setting."

Ebert, 64, is reported in good condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he is recovering from recent cancer surgery, the newspaper said.

Kevin Smith, the writer, director and actor, has been chosen to co-host the Aug. 12th show and auditions continue for other substitutes.
