'My Name Is Earl' to become a comic book

PORTLAND, Ore., July 19 (UPI) -- NBC's hit comedy series, "My Name Is Earl," is about to get the comic book treatment, Oni Press announced in Portland, Ore.

The comic book publisher said it would divulge more details about the comic book series, based on the Emmy-nominated show starring Jason Lee and Jaime Pressly, during Comic-Con 2006 in San Diego on Saturday.

"My Name Is Earl" script coordinator and writer Hunter Covington has been hired to help put Earl Hickey and his colorful cast of cohorts onto paper, publisher Joe Nozemack said on Oni's Web site.

"Hunter is the script coordinator for the show, a big comics fan and the writer of one of my favorite 'Earl' episodes, 'The Bountyhunter,'" Covington posted. "With a resume like that, I knew we had to get him involved in our new adventures of Earl and the gang."

Oni aims to have its inaugural "Earl" issue in stores this winter.
