Motown star has 'Nowhere to Run'

DETROIT, June 6 (UPI) -- Detroit Councilwoman Martha Reeves once scored a hit with the song "Nowhere to Run" -- now she reportedly finds herself caught in a similar situation.

With a history of speaking out against property owners who mishandle their properties, it was shocking when city records revealed Reeves was guilty of doing the same thing, the Detroit News reports.

Reeves owns 15 lots and three rental properties in the city, all of which have been deemed unsafe and become dumping grounds for garbage.

Although citing problems with the city and red tape issues as the cause for the dilapidation, the former Motown star admitted fault to the Detroit News for the properties' condition, the newspaper said.

"I believe that the citizens have a right to hold their elected officials' feet to the fire. I am working hard to make the necessary improvements to these properties," Reeves told the News.
