NEW YORK, March 26 (UPI) -- Actor Ryan Gosling's foray into a New York public school to prepare for his role in "Half Nelson" was aborted when the heartthrob proved to be a disruption.
"The girls kept trying to hand him copies of 'The Notebook,' so that ended pretty quickly," Director Ryan Fleck said during last week's New York's New Directors/New Films festival, Daily Variety reported Sunday.
"Half Nelson" is described by Variety as a "Dangerous Minds" type film in which the teacher, played by Gosling, as well as his students are in need of reform.
"It's about a guy who's frustrated and wants to change the world but can't seem to get his own life together," Fleck said.
The film kicked off the 35th annual festival sponsored by New York's Museum of Modern Art and the Film Society of Lincoln Center.
