China bans 'Memoirs of a Geisha'

BEIJING, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- Add "Memoirs of a Geisha" to the list of Hollywood films that won't be shown in China.

Chinese critics are reportedly up in arms over the casting of Chinese actresses Ziyi Zhang and Gong Li as Japanese women, the BBC reported Thursday. The critics object to the casting, citing Japan's atrocities during the occupation of China in the 1930s.

China has also rejected "Brokeback Mountain," because of its homosexual theme.
