PASADENA, Calif., Jan. 21 (UPI) -- The 1972 Emmy Award-winning TV special "Liza with a Z" has been restored for a theatrical viewing and airing on the premium cable channel Showtime.
The restored work of director/choreographer Bob Fosse, songwriters John Kander and Fred Ebb and Liza Minnelli will be shown at a March 13 benefit for Equity Fights AIDS at New York's Ziegfeld Theatre. It will air on Showtime April 1, The New York Daily News reported Saturday.
"Bob Fosse only directed five films in his career and we consider this his sixth lost film," executive producer Craig Zadan told the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena, Calif.
Minnelli told The News the show was Fosse's "most glorious stage work and choreography, and his most genius film work."
"We had eight cameras, a full house and one performance, and he got that," she said. Because there were no monitors, Minnelli said she no idea how the filming turned out.
"He called me up finally," she said, "and he said, 'I got it. I got everything that you did, and I have never in my life seen a performance like that.'"
"Liza with a Z" went on to win four Emmys and a Peabody Award.
