Dr. John, Aaron Neville sing at Super Bowl

DETROIT, Jan. 13 (UPI) -- The National Football League has tapped Aaron Neville and Dr. John to perform the national anthem before the Super Bowl at Detroit's Ford Field.

The choice of New Orleans artists to perform the anthem Feb. 5 is a tribute to the victims of Hurricane Katrina, the Detroit Free Press said Friday.

Detroit poet/musician John Sinclair, a former New Orleans resident, said the choice will give an emotional boost to Louisianans.

"It sounds like a beautiful thing," he told the Free Press. "The city will feel this coming right out of their TV sets."

The newspaper said a news conference was planned next week, during which officials will announce the addition of R&B star John Legend to the pregame music show.
