Blunt and Chiefs lead Brit nominees

LONDON, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- James Blunt and the Kaiser Chiefs led the pack with five Brit Award nominations each when they were announced Tuesday in London.

Coldplay garnered four nods while Madonna, K.T. Tunstall and Canada's Arcade Fire each garnered three, the BBC said.

Blur frontman Damon Albarn's animated band, Gorillaz, was nominated for best album and as best group while Kate Bush's comeback after 12 years earned her nods as best British female singer and best album.

Charlotte Church, Katie Melua, Tunstall and Natasha Bedingfield will compete against Bush in the best British female category.

Robbie Williams received an unprecedented 15th Brit Award nomination in the best male category.

The Brit Awards will be doled out Feb. 15.
