SANTA CLARITA, Calif., Nov. 27 (UPI) -- Marilyn Monroe's leading man in the 1952 film "Clash by Night" -- Keith Andes -- has died in Santa Clarita, Calif., at age 85.
Andes was suffering bladder cancer and several other ailments when he committed suicide Nov. 11, the Los Angeles Times reported Sunday.
Andes started his career on Broadway in the 1940s and starred in the 1960 musical "Wildcat" with Lucille Ball. He won the Theatre World Award for outstanding breakout performance of 1947 for "The Chocolate Soldier" and later starred in "Kiss Me Kate."
He appeared in about 20 movies in addition to "Clash By Night," including "The Farmer's Daughter" in 1947 and 1970's "Tora! Tora! Tora!"
Actress Glynis Johns played his wife in the 1963 TV sitcom "Glynis" and he was featured in the syndicated police drama "This Man Dawson" from 1959 to 1960. He also made guest appearances on more than 40 shows, mostly westerns, the Times said.
Andes is survived by his son Mark, an original member of the rock bands Canned Heat and Spirit; a son Matt; and three grandchildren.
