'Strangers With Candy' help up in snafu

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Warner Independent Pictures says it will not release "Strangers With Candy" because its producers may not have secured all the rights it needed.

"Strangers With Candy" was supposed to hit U.S. theaters on Oct. 21.

Concern over whether David Letterman's Worldwide Pants obtained the rights to use posters and props from Comedy Central, which ran the original TV show of the same name, prompted the studio to back out of the deal, Daily Variety reported Tuesday.

"Strangers With Candy," starring Amy Sedaris and Stephen Colbert, is Worldwide Pants' first feature film, Variety said.

It was unknown whether Warner will void its contract with Worldwide Pants and allow Letterman's company to seek another distributor.
