LISBON, Portugal, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Britain's Coldplay and Gorillaz received five nominations each Wednesday, topping all acts receiving nods for the 2005 MTV Europe Music Awards.
The 12th annual EMAs will be doled out Nov. 3 in Lisbon, Portugal, with British comic Sacha Baron Cohen as host of the event, MTV announced.
Coldplay and Gorillaz will compete for Best Group, Best Song and Best British and Ireland Act, with Coldplay picking up additional nods for Best Album and Best Rock Act. Gorillaz are in the running for Best Video and Best Pop Act.
U.S. rocker Gwen Stefani earned four EMA nominations and 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, Green Day, U2 and British singer James Blunt all got three nods.
Music fans across Africa and Europe choose the winners in all categories except Best Video by voting online.
