Disney strikes DVD deal with Roger Corman

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Cult film hero Roger Corman has signed a distribution deal with Disney for his hundreds of low-budget indie films on DVD.

The 12-year contract between Corman's Concorde-New Horizons and Buena Vista Home Entertainment gives the Disney owned company distribution rights to more than 400 Corman films in the United States and select films in Canada, Daily Variety reported Thursday.

It marks the first DVD distribution deal for Corman, whose many classics include "The Little Shop of Horrors," "Rock and Roll High School" and "Death Race 2000."

Corman's firm had been releasing its low-cost DVDs to retailers on its own, but was finding it slow going in a crowded market, a Concorde spokesman told Variety.

The firm is hopeful Buena Vista will be able to secure higher-profile placement and better marketing support for Corman's products.
