Shyamalan originally wrote "Lady in the Water" for his children, Warner said in a news release. It's about a modest building manager who rescues a mysterious young woman who is actually a character from a bedtime story trying to make the treacherous journey back to her world.

As the story evolves, Cleveland and his fellow tenants start to realize that they, too, are characters in the bedtime story.

The movie will be filmed on location in Philadelphia.
