Hollywood plans 'All of Me' remake

LOS ANGELES, May 6 (UPI) -- Plans are under way in Hollywood for a remake of the 1984 Steve Martin-Lily Tomlin comedy "All of Me," Daily Variety said Friday.

The paper said New Line has hired Brent Goldberg and David Wagner ("The Girl Next Door," "Van Wilder") to write a screenplay for the project. The original -- written by Phil Alden Robinson and directed by Carl Reiner -- featured Martin as a lawyer whose body is half-possessed by the soul of a terminally ill wealthy woman (Tomlin) when her plan to be reincarnated goes wrong.

Variety said New Line has Wanda Sykes in mind for the female lead but has not made any decisions on a male lead. Wagner told the paper he and Goldberg intend to retain the spirit of the 1984 film, while updating it for contemporary technology and comedy standards.

"We're trying to pay homage to the original, but with all new set pieces, and make the woman someone younger who will play off a man who's more of a milquetoast," said Wagner.
