BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., May 5 (UPI) -- The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Beverly Hills will celebrate the centennial of the birth of actor Henry Fonda, the academy said Thursday.
The academy will screen a newly restored print of "My Darling Clementine," the 1946 feature in which Fonda played Wyatt Earp in director John Ford's account of events the led to the legendary gunfight at the OK Corral. The May 20 screening will also feature a discussion with Fonda's daughter, Jane Fonda, as well as friends and collaborators who knew and worked with Fonda.
The screening -- presented in conjunction with the U.S. Postal Service -- will also celebrate the first day of issue of the "Legends of Hollywood" Henry Fonda stamp, which will be dedicated at a ceremony preceding the screening.
Fonda was born on May 16, 1905. He won the Best Actor Oscar in 1981 for his performance as Norman Thayer Jr. in "On Golden Pond." His only other acting nomination came in 1940, for his performance as Tom Joad in "The Grapes of Wrath."
Fonda was nominated for a Best Picture Oscar in 1957 as one of the producers on "12 Angry Men."
