LONDON, April 25 (UPI) -- Elton John announced Monday that after same-sex civil unions become legal in Britain in December, he will marry his partner of 11 years, David Furnish.
"We definitely want to do it about the middle of December," the 58-year-old singer/songwriter told the Daily Mirror. "Meeting David has been the greatest thing to happen to me."
Last month, the British tabloids suggested the pair might be splitting due to John's busy schedule, which spurred Furnish, 42, to release a statement saying the pair had "never been happier."
John credited Furnish with helping him to overcome his life-threatening drug and alcohol addictions and said there would be no honeymoon, as he is on tour.
John married to studio technician Renate Blauel on Valentine's Day in 1984 and divorced her in 1988.
