NEW YORK, Nov. 19 (UPI) -- The Emmy Award-winning team behind TNT's "Door to Door" has reunited for "The Wool Cap," a reinvention of Jackie Gleason's "Gigot."
Starring William H. Macy, directed by Steven Schachter and written by both, "The Wool Cap" is about a mute building superintendent who befriends a girl (Keke Palmer) abandoned by her mother.
"It was difficult to write," Macy recently told UPI. "I wanted it to be clear that I could indicate this stuff and people would know what I was saying (even though I was silent.) I had to figure out how to mime everything."
The actor also said he took to heart advice his friend playwright David Mamet once gave him.
"The words aren't that important," Macy noted. "It's your intentions that carry the day. It's not what you say, it's what you WANT that makes things clear."
A dad himself, Macy said he also enjoyed that aspect of the film, too.
"It is about a 'father-daughter' love and that families come in all shapes and colors these days and it's time for us to expand what we have traditionally thought of as a family."
