John Ritter clan files wrongful death suit

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- The late John Ritter's family filed a lawsuit against the California hospital where the actor died, alleging doctors could have saved him, it was reported.

Ritter's wife, Amy Yasbeck, the couple's daughter, Stella, and the actor's children from his first marriage, Carly, Tyler and Jason, filed a medical malpractice and wrongful death suit in Los Angeles Superior Court last week against Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, Calif., E! Ritter died Sept. 11, 2003, at age 54 after being rushed to the hospital from the set of his ABC sitcom "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter."

Cause of death was listed as aortic aneurysm, but the suit said he was misdiagnosed twice. The hospital and its staff "caused the untimely death of (Ritter) by misdiagnosing his condition and, as a consequence, failing to provide proper treatment ... that would have saved his life," the suit said.

The family seeks general damages, wrongful death damages, medical expenses and funeral and burial expenses.
